Peripheral Vascular Interventions

Diagnosis and Treatment of Peripheral Arterial Disease

Peripheral vascular interventions focus on blood vessels outside the coronary circulation. Narrowing or blockage of peripheral arteries can reduce blood flow to affected areas and may require detailed vascular evaluation.

Dr. Rohan Ainchwar provides Peripheral Angiography and Peripheral Angioplasty as part of his interventional services.

Peripheral Angiography

Peripheral angiography is a catheter-based imaging procedure used to examine peripheral blood vessels.

Contrast material and X-ray imaging allow the cardiologist to identify:

  • Location of arterial narrowing
  • Severity of the obstruction
  • Extent of vascular involvement
  • Pattern of blood flow
  • Whether intervention may be appropriate

Peripheral Angioplasty

When a narrowed or blocked peripheral artery is suitable for catheter-based treatment, peripheral angioplasty may be considered.

A balloon catheter is guided to the affected portion of the artery and inflated to help widen the narrowed segment and improve blood flow.

Additional intervention may be required depending on the vessel and characteristics of the disease.

Who May Require Evaluation?

Peripheral arterial disease can produce symptoms associated with reduced circulation. Evaluation may be considered according to the patient’s symptoms, vascular risk factors and clinical findings.

Assessment may include consideration of:

  • Symptoms during walking or activity
  • Reduced peripheral circulation
  • Cardiovascular risk factors
  • Existing coronary artery disease
  • Previous vascular investigations

Comprehensive Cardiovascular Approach

Peripheral arterial disease may coexist with disease affecting other parts of the cardiovascular system.

For this reason, vascular assessment is considered alongside the patient’s overall cardiovascular health.

Dr. Ainchwar’s expertise in both coronary and peripheral interventions allows diagnostic findings and treatment requirements to be considered as part of a broader cardiovascular management plan.
